One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest
KADS next production will be Dale Wasserman’s stage adaptation of Ken Kesey’s novel. We will be performing at the Adam Smith Theatre (Kirkcaldy) 25th-27th October.
We are getting together to read the script at 7.30pm, Sun 20th May, in our new rehearsal venue – St Peter’s church hall, Townsend Place, Kirkcaldy - auditions on Sun 27th May in the same venue. (We'll also be there on Wednesday 23rd for those that cannot come along on Sunday).
Everyone is welcome to come along to read the play on the 20th, but I must remind you that we will ask you join KADS – membership £30 (£20) – before you audition.
Ken Kesey's tragicomic novel, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, takes place in a mental hospital during the late 1950s.
You will probably remember the 1975 film, directed by Miloš Forman and starring Jack Nicholson, which won five Academy Awards.
The book could be read on two levels; on the surface, there is the story of how the highly individualistic McMurphy becomes a patient and for a time overturns the senseless and dehumanizing routines of the ward. If you look deeper, there is a commentary on U.S. society, which the Beat generation of the late 1950s viewed as so hopelessly conformist as to stifle individuality and creativity.
Welcome to Kirkcaldy Amateur Dramatic SocietyKADS is a friendly local amateur dramatic society based in Kirkcaldy, Fife. It has been running for the past 35 years, producing many successful plays, both Full Length and One Act. We currently produce plays twice a year. In September we hold our main production at the Adam Smith Theatre. This play is usually included in the SCDA Full Length Play Festival. In February we produce a selection of plays for the One Act Play Festival. These plays have the potential of going forward to the East of Scotland Division, the Scottish Final and ultimately the British Final. If you are interested in finding out more about us or you are thinking of joining, or you just want to know how to find us, take a look at the other pages on our website. You can find out about our next performance, and maybe reminisce by looking through the things we have done in the past. We would love to see you at KADS in the near future. |
